Meeting Roles and Responsibilities

Toastmaster

Conducts the Toastmasters Meeting. Introduces the speakers and other meeting participants. Ensures that the meeting flows smoothly.

Table Topics Master

Presents several topics that challenge the members to present impromptu speeches. The Table Topics Master should provide an opportunity for all members (and guests if they want) to speak at the club meeting.

General Evaluator

Conducts the Evaluation Segment of the Toastmasters meeting. Introduces the individual Evaluators, and other evaluation partic­ipants. Also evaluates the Toastmaster, Evaluators and the meeting as a whole.

Presiding Officer

Oversees the business meeting according to Robert's Rules of Order.

Ah Counter

Counts the number of verbal stumbles such as (ahs, ums, etc.) for all meeting participants and reports the results.

Grammarian

Listens for grammatical errors and reports on these results. Also listens for particularly well-done grammar.

Jokemaster

Sets the tone for the meeting by presenting a joke or brief hu­morous story.

Quizmaster

Helps members to develop listening skills by presenting several questions based on the content of the meeting.

Wordmaster

Help's meeting participants to expand their vocabulary by pre­senting a word that members are challenged to use it when they speak during the meeting.

Opener / Quotemaster / Invocator

Opens the Toastmasters meeting by presenting a short intro­ductory speech or invocation. Leads the club through the Pledge of Allegiance and introduces any guests in attendance.

Timer

Times meeting activities such as speeches, evaluations, and table topics as well as any other timings as directed by the Toastmaster. Presents signals to the speakers based on the time interval (typically green at minimum time, red at the maxi­mum time, and yellow at the midpoint time.

Speaker

Presents a speech based on objectives as specified in the vari­ous Communications and Leadership Manuals.

Evaluator

Presents a brief evaluation of the individual speakers. The eval­uator should indicate the things that the speaker does particu­larly well as well as giving the speaker one or two suggestions that he or she can use for improvement next time.

Greeter

Greets all members and guests as they arrive to the Toastmas­ters meeting. Introduces guests to club members who will sit with the guest during the meeting to explain the meeting.

Harkmaster

Makes note of various things that are said during the meeting (speeches, table topics, announcements, etc.).  At the end of the meeting, asks questions based on the notes.  The intent is to encourage attentive listening throughout the meeting.
